While researching content for my most recent mail-out, I became aware of a new rule of the Canada Revenue Agency that affected real estate.

Starting with the 2016 taxation year, with filings due by May 1, 2017, when you sell your principal residence, it is now a requirement that you report basic information such as the date of acquisition, the proceeds of disposition and a description of the property on your income tax and benefit return in order to claim the full principal residence exemption
